Chilton Memorial Hospital to Launch Innovative Compact Workstations by Artromick
POMPTON PLAINS, N.J., Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Chilton Memorial Hospital, a 256-bed acute-care community hospital announced that it began utilizing 90 Artromick Mobile Computing WorkStations on January 30, 2007, starting with the Cardiac Intermediate Care Unit. The entire hospital is scheduled to be "live" with mobile computing technology by June.
The new Artromick Mobile Computing WorkStations are part of the highly secure Meditech Bedside Medication Verification (BMV) system. In which nurses use handheld barcode scanners on unit dose medications, and a patient's ID bracelet to verify the correct patient and medication. Utilizing the BMV system safeguards on mobile computing technology with the nurse's clinical expertise has enhanced patient outcomes by reducing human errors and adverse drug reactions.
Mary Rich, Chief Nurse Executive at Chilton Memorial Hospital discusses implementing the BMV system and Artromick Mobile Computing WorkStations, "Mobilizing this new technology is essential in facilitating electronic documentation at the bedside, and fulfilling Chilton's commitment to patient safety. This paperless system benefits our nursing staff in many ways, but for the patient, the combined value of a mobile computing workstation, utilized by the nurse, at the bedside is immeasurable."
The Artromick Mobile Computing WorkStation provides easy maneuverability to the point-of-care with a convenient bracket for a bar code scanner in order for the nurse to scan both the patient ID band and the medication. Accommodating a scanner, all-in-one computer, storage bin, wireless connectivity and many other accessories all on the compact Mobile Computing Workstations has significantly reduced the number of steps a nurse has to take. Furthermore, streamlining the workflow permits more time to spend on patient care. Nurses will be able to add comments in the online records for physicians to observe on the monitor when visiting the patient. The physician is able to rotate the monitor in order to view images from both a vertical and horizontal orientation. In addition, the motorized height adjustment positions the monitor and keyboard at the perfect height for comfortable use while standing or seated. Best of all, configurable mobile computing technology works in conjunction with the nurse's clinical knowledge and BMV verification system to provide reliable patient data management.
